Deep from the cultural heart of Tamil Nadu comes the Madurai Sungudi, a saree that is as much a work of art as it is a garment. With a history spanning over four centuries, these sarees were originally crafted by the Saurashtrian weavers who migrated to Madurai under the patronage of King Thirumalai Nayak.

The name "Sungudi" is derived from the Sanskrit word Sunnam, meaning "round," referring to the circular dots that form the soul of this fabric's design.
